This is a bed that I made for one special little girl. The bed is shaped as a little house and is outfitted with internal LED lighting. Due to specifically designed joinery, the bed can be easily knocked down for transportation.
The bed started off as a solid piece of Ash. To match the color scheme of the bedroom, I needed a wood with white and gray tones. Ash was the perfect species.
As with all beds, disasembly is essential and this bed was no different. The challenge was to design a joinery system the made assembly easy without needing screwdrivers and wrenches. If you ever had to assemble a bed from one of the major furniture stores, then you will appreciate this bed's design.
I used dove tails for the horizontal rails that made up the top and I found this interconnecting hardware for the bottom rails. The whole system produced rock solid construction that won't wobble; yet, it can be easily assembled or dissambled with a rubber mallet.
